Can Breastfeeding Prevent Allergies? PDF Print E-mail
Breastfeeding may delay the onset of allergic reactions in infants, but there is no evidence that it protects children of allergic parents from developing allergies. Babies inherit a tendency toward allergy, so delaying the introduction of solid foods prolong the time in which they are allergy-free, but will not prevent allergies occurring later. However, new research suggest that not introducing solid food for six months greatly reduces the risk for developing allergies.
